Latin American literature has always been close to my heart and in the spirit of sharing, I thought I would bring to you all some of my favourite poets and authors from the Continent! I hope for even those who are not Spanish speakers, you find a few recommendations that spark linguistic joy!
Siempre he llevado el tema de la literatura latinoamericana en el corazón y para compartir un poco estos conocimientos, pensé que introducirÃa a ustedes mis poetas y escritores favoritos del continente. ¡Espero que ustedes, incluso a los que no son hispanohablantes, encuentren algunas sugerencias que les despiertan la alegrÃa lingüÃstica!
Sor Juana Inez de la Cruz was a 17th-century poet, nun and self-taught scholar from Mexico and her poetry boasts some of the most poignant and beautiful instances of imagery that I have ever read. Bursting to the brim with idiom, wit, and irony, she is a pleasure to read both in Spanish and English.

Personal Favourite: Respondiendo a un Caballero de Perú, que le envió unos Barros diciéndole que se volviese hombre.
One of my personal favourites, the Argentine Jorges Luis Borges and his plethora of essays, shorts stories and poems need no introduction. However, I find that there is always more to discover in both his prose and poetry. Full of intellectual scepticism, references, and boat loads of intrigue, he is the gift that keeps on giving.
Un favorito personal para mà es el argentino Jorge Luis Borges, cuya plétora de ensayos, cuentos, y poemas no necesitan ninguna presentación. Sin embargo siempre hay algo más de descubrir, tanto en su prosa como en su poesÃa. Lleno del escepticismo intelectual, referencias, y un cargamento de la curiosidad, él es el regalo que perdura.
Personal Favourite: Tlön, Uqbar and Orbius Tertius de Ficciones.
Finally, a slightly more niche recommendation in the anglophone world! Amanda Berenguer was one of the most important poets in Uruguay’s Generacion del 45. Unfortunately, due to the fickle world of translation, her work remains largely hidden from the English speaking world. Lucid, intergenerational and visual, her poetry boasts an insightful and touching imaginary.
¡Finalmente, una recomendación un poco más desconocida en el mundo anglófono! Amanda Berenguer fue una de las poetas más importantes en la Generación de 45 en Uruguay. Desafortunadamente debido al inconsistente mundo de la traducción, sus obras siguen siendo en gran parte escondidas del mundo anglófono. Lúcida, intergeneracional y visual, su poesÃa contiene un imaginario profundo y emocionante.
